Biography

Lake 22 is the musical culmination of the best about growing up in the Pacific Northwest: The great beauty of nature around them, combined with the music that has defined Seattle as one of the premier cities for music innovation and influence. The band’s music is shaped by the grunge rock of the 80s and 90s, the Punk movement, and their parents’ record collections of classic rock, pop, and jazz.  The five members of Lake 22, through study, passion, practice, and friendship, have developed a high level of musicianship, smart writing chops, and confidence as live performers that is way beyond their ages.

Thrilling Detail isLake 22’s new and first full-length album, produced by Jonathan Plum at the iconic London Bridge Studio. When the pandemic hit and the band’s plans for touring had to be delayed, Lake 22 pivoted and used the time to produce three videos for Thrilling Detail, perform one live stream, write 10 new songs, and go back in the studio with Jonathan Plum to record music for a second full album.  The new album is scheduled for a spring 2021 release. In the meantime, Thrilling Detail is out and it’s edgy, musical, and it ROCKS. A video for the song, Walls, directed and edited by Portland’s Lance Hofstad, is being premiered to coincide with the release of the album. Walls (Music Video)

Lake 22 (formerly Lights Out!) began their Rock ‘n Roll journey at Big Star Studios, a local music studio in Snoqualmie, Washington. A decade later, the three founding members, Tyler Kinnaman (vocals, guitar), Jonny Bechtol (bass), and Dylan Scott (keyboards), are still together.  They were joined in 2016 by drummer Willem Kuhn and in 2019 by Bella Mariani (vocals, guitar), formerly of another promising local band, LocoMotive.

As a group of young musicians, Lake 22 is connected, lively, and serious, embracing all genres of music. Their setlist may combine imaginative “alt-punk” originals with classic rock and punk staples, including Blink 182, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Arctic Monkeys, Green Day, Heart, and The Beatles.
